Mission
Today, global environmental issues such as climate change, ocean pollution, loss of forests and biodiversity and pandemics of infectious diseases on a global scale make 'Planetary Health' the most pressing issue for our life
In order to tackle such challenges, it is essential that industry, government and academia in each country research and promote bioscience beyond the borders of traditional research and industrial fields
With its excellent universities, companies, research institutions and researchers, Japan has the potential to lead the world in bioscience, but has yet to make a sufficient contribution.
A roadmap for Mutual Cooperation under a “Special Partnership" was recently signed by the leaders of France and Japan, and prior to that, a Letter of Intent between the Pasteur Institute and the University of Tokyo and for the establishment of a "Planetary Health Innovation Centre (PHIC)".
PHIC, as a part of Pasteur Institute of Japan (IPJ), which will be established on the basis of the above roadmap, is a project to develop innovations through industry, government and academia collaboration, utilising the wide range of research assets and talents in the biological sciences of the University of Tokyo and the knowledge and global network of Institute Pasteur mainly in the field of public health.
