Launch of the “Planetary Health Industry-Academia Joint Initiative” by Keidanren, Institut Pasteur du Japon and the University of Tokyo
Keidanren is pleased to announce the launch of the “Planetary Health Industry-Academia Joint Initiative” with the Planetary Health Innovation Center (PHIC), a collaboration between the Institut Pasteur du Japon (IPJ) and the University of Tokyo.
In recent years, climate change, ocean pollution, biodiversity loss, and infectious disease pandemics on a global scale have made "planetary health" the most serious and pressing issue not only for human beings but for all lives on Earth.
Believing that the development of biotechnology will contribute to solving global issues related to “planetary health”, it is working vigorously to build a world-leading bioeconomy. The Institut Pasteur (headquarters: Paris) and the University of Tokyo signed an LOI to establish PHIC in October 2023, and PHIC activities will be launched with the establishment of IPJ on June 24, 2024.
Through the “Planetary Health Industry-Academia Joint Initiative”, Keidanren and PHIC will promote industry understanding and knowledge of planetary health, study cutting-edge research cases and exchange opinions on a regular basis, aiming to strengthen industry-academia collaboration and capitalize new business opportunities that will contribute to planetary health. Keidanren's Bioeconomy Committee, Startup Committee, Innovation Committee, and other committees will participate in this joint initiative.
Taking advantage of the visit of President Belkaid of the Institut Pasteur, a briefing session on the “Planetary Health Industry-Academia Joint Initiative” will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 24, at the Keidanren Hall.
